Just what is Leadership at 26000 feet?
Pretty much everything that has been learnt or taught about leadership is based on the one single concept - how does one individual lead others? How does he or she develop skills needed to achieve extraordinary goals and results. To achieve what is seemingly impossible at any cost. And sometimes at great personal costs.
Is leadership an inborn skill or can anyone learn it?
Probably one of the places to look for leadership lessons is in the armed forces. After all, that is where men fight for the highest stakes and teams operate in truly 'mission critical' scenarios. Where the meaning of life and death situations - is literal.
How do leaders take men into battle without ESOPs, pay hikes, perks or bonuses. How do 22 years old youngsters motivate veterans and lead them into face of certain death. What drives a soldier to make the supreme sacrifice for a pittance. (And most corporates struggle to just get employees to office on time !)
About this workshop
Leadership means a lot of different things for different people. But there is no doubt that human character is best studied during times of trauma. This two hour workshop is based on the backdrop of the Siachen Glacier - unarguably considered to be one of the toughest battlefields on earth.
During the workshop, you will see the battle field through the eyes of a soldier, you will suffer his pain, anxiety, fear and uncertainty. And in that frame of mind, you will experience the redefinition of leadership. Because you will have to lead and take decisions, you will realize what it means to truly motivate, what is the difference between managing and leading and what you could do 'starting Monday morning' to implement some of the learning's.
Most people who have attended this workshop have never been the same person again. [See personal experiences]
What you need to do before attending the workshop
Ideally you should read this story before you come in. [ The Rope ] It sets the context and gives you a sense of the unconventional nature of the workshop. But most importantly you should come in prepared for an experience with an open mind and faith in your own capability to change.
